Lately, I’ve been playing with SharePoint 2013. Specifically the masterpage and pagelayout template. As a frontend, this is a little learning curve for me but not as much as I thought. Coming from 2010 SharePoint, things may be a little familiar.

I’ll keep it short this time, i’ll update the post next time when I’m totally free!

Masterpage snippet for Dropdown user navigation at the top right hand corner (standard Oslo/seattle template).

First, register the component first – put this at the very top section.

<%@Register TagPrefix="wssucw" TagName="Welcome" Src="~/_controltemplates/15/Welcome.ascx"%>

Next add below tags anywhere where you’d like the dropdown to show up. Bear in mind, code below is security trimmed, meaning it will filter the user privilege.

<SharePoint:SPSecurityTrimmedControl runat="server"> <wssucw:Welcome runat="server" EnableViewState="false" /> </SharePoint:SPSecurityTrimmedControl>
